Just in time, Beau’s has shipped some shiver-stoppers to LCBOs across the province: the 2014 Best of Beau’s holiday mix pack, which features 4 different Beau’s beers as well as a series of 4 collectable recipe cards paired with each beer in the pack, courtesy of Beau’s chef Bruce Wood.

Selections for the 2014 Best of Beau’s 4-pack were chosen by fan voting back in June – the 4 top vote-getters made it into the limited-edition holiday sampler. Its offerings are a creative cross-section of the innovative and diverse beer styles Beau’s All Natural Brewery has come to be known for.

Copper-coloured St. Luke’s Verse Lavender Gruit (5.7%) offers up an aromatic herb-and-spice bouquet of lavender, accented by thyme and rosemary
Winterbrewed Coffee-Amber (6%) is brewed with Mexican micro-lot organic fairtrade coffee from Ottawa’s Bridgehead Roastery – flavours of coffee and barley melded with nutty, fruity inflections
Burnt Rock (5.6%) is a classic British-style porter brewed with a generous addition of organic vanilla beans – earned a pretigious Gold medal at the 2013 Mondial de la Bière in 2013
Mission Accomplished (6.7%) is an American IPA brewed with a combination of organic American and New Zealand hops, giving the beer sweet, juicy notes of tangerine, tropical fruit and pine

Beau’s winter seasonal, Bog Water, has also returned to the LCBO beer line-up, and will continue until spring returns. Dubbed by the brewery as an “Eastern Ontario” Gruit, this rare and ancient style shares the malt and yeast profile of a Belgian ale. Bog Water uses a wild-harvested herb known as bog myrtle or sweet gale, used extensively in brewing in the 1500s, to add flavour and to preserve the beer. The seasonal brew is malty with a plum-like fruitiness that is offset by a spicy, earthy bitterness.

This 3rd annual edition of the Best of Beau’s mix pack, containing 4 signature 600 ml bottles and a series of 4 collectable beer-inspired recipe cards, is now on sale at a price of $24 in LCBOs across Ontario; single bottles of Bog Water gruit are $4.35 each. unnamedGlutenberg microbrewery launches its very first Indiegogo crowd funding campaign today and it’s asking its fans’ support in anticipation of its Ontario launch.

Montreal, November 18th 2014 – We’re excited to launch our very first Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to ask for YOUR support for our most recent project: the distribution of Glutenberg beers in Ontario at The Beer Store. Check out our project here

It’s now been three years that we’ve been pouring our hearts and souls into creating not just the best gluten-free beer, but the best beer possible, period. Since our beginning, we’ve experienced phenomenal growth, both in Quebec and outside of our borders. To date, Glutenberg beers are available in 8 Canadian provinces, 14 American states, and Italy and Brazil, which makes us very proud. However, despite the proximity, we’ve never been able to establish ourselves in Ontario, one of North America’s most important markets.After many unsuccessful attempts trying to work with the LCBO, we’ve finally decided that our beers would be distributed at The Beer Store, the only alternative to the state-run corporation LCBO. However, contrarily to the LCBO, this second option requires a massive investment on our part, an investment we won’t be able to make without your precious help. It’s for this reason that we’re launching an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign today.

The greater our fans’ (and your readers’) support, the wider the distribution of Glutenberg beers in Ontario, because we have to pay fees for each The Beer Store location that will sell our beers. And even if your readers don’t live in Ontario, know they can still help us by making a smaller contribution or by sharing the link below on social media.We hope to be able to count on your support to spread the word about this great project, either by writing a short article, or by sharing the link about our campaign on social media. 10549625_1506890239522986_1373963397_nOTTAWA – (July 10, 2014) Tickets will go on sale Thursday August 7 for the 6th Annual Vankleek Hill Oktoberfest, presented by local craft brewery Beau’s All Natural. The two-day festival and signature fundraising event will take place Friday October 3 and Saturday October 4, at the fairgrounds in Vankleek Hill, Ontario.

A baker’s dozen of different Beau’s beers will be served up cold and tasty this year, with many German styles represented, and a mix of brand-new recipes and returning favourites. For those craving a sneak preview, four of these beers will be sold starting in early September at the LCBO, in a special Beau’s Oktoberfest 4-pack. The 4-pack will also sell through home delivery in Ottawa via BYBO (www.bybo.ca), and the brewery retail store.

Canadian music is, as always, a big part of VKH Oktoberfest. National indie rock icon and Juno Award winner Joel Plaskett with The Emergency headline Friday’s performers, which also include The Rural Alberta Advantage and Groenland. Saturday’s show is headed up by Newmarket, Ontario’s indie rockers Tokyo Police Club, and also features electro hip-hop performers Radio Radio. Canada’s polka king Walter Ostanek is back again this year for daytime entertainment, as are traditional German dance group The Schuhplatters. A bigger, better stage for this year’s Oktoberfest promises better sightlines and more room up front for fans.

The Cask Area is expanded this year, featuring a tremendous array of naturally carbonated beers from a wide variety of local and Ontario craft breweries. “School of Bock” also returns with tutored tastings and food-pairing sessions for the eternally beer-curious. Foodies will be presented with even more Bavarian and seasonally inspired creations to choose from this year: Beau’s has lined up 25 local restaurants for each day from across Ontario.

The festival’s fun activities and challenges return for 2014, including the stein-hold struggle, sausage-eating contest, and keg tossing for height and distance, as well as the popular spouse-carrying race. Spectators for these events will now have access to licensed, covered grandstand seating to enjoy these events in a bigger arena. The non-licensed kids’ area “Kinderfest” is back as well for the youngest festival-goers, as is the Games Midway, Skateboarding Demo area in conjunction with Antique Skate Shop, and homebrewing demonstrations. Beau’s brewery remains open for tours and tastings from 10-6 daily, with a shuttle bus running to and from the grounds.

The VKH Oktoberfest will raise money to support the Eastern Ontario Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and local grassroots charity Ottawa Riverkeeper, as well as the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society, Just Food, Hidden Harvest, Unshaven Mavens, and a number of smaller charities. Last year’s festival raised more than $75,000, for a five-year fundraising total of $242,000 for this event.

A total of 15,000 tickets will be released for sale beginning August 7. Last year’s attendance was 12,000. Adult admission is $22 taxes in, and includes an Oktoberfest hat, a pretzel and your first beer or other beverage. Two-day passes are $33 for $11 of savings, and kids passes (18 and under) are $5. As in previous years round-trip bus transportation will be available from Ottawa, Cornwall and Montreal, at a cost of $15. To gain free admission, Beau’s welcomes “Volun-beers” to help out during, before or after the festival. Those interested can apply at http://www.beaus.ca/volunteer.

17rUoRrlMarché des Brasseurs will take place at the beautiful Hendrick Farm in Old Chelsea, Quebec on Saturday, July 26th, 2014.

The Marché des Brasseurs is the first Quebec edition of the Brewery Market, which has hosted events in Toronto and Ottawa since 2011. The Brewery Market’s mission is to showcase local craft beer and food in unique settings, in an inclusive and family-friendly environment. This event will be no different.
The Marché will be held at the Hendrick Farm, a gorgeous heritage property in Old Chelsea which has already gained a reputation as a destination that supports conservation, sustainability and the environment. The Farm, which is part of a community redevelopment project in Chelsea, features a historic barn that visitors will be able to explore and enjoy during the Marché.

For the inaugural Marché, they’re thrilled to be welcoming some of Quebec’s finest craft breweries, including Trou du Diable from Shawinigan, Brasserie Dunham from Dunham, Microbrasserie Le Castor from Rigaud, Brasseurs du Temps from Gatineau and Benelux from Montreal. They’re grateful that these quality brewers are participating in the first (of hopefully many) Marchés in Quebec.

The Marché des Brasseurs will be free admission and you will be able to buy beer and food at the event. It will run from 12pm – 6pm on Saturday, July 26th. The event will be all-ages and family friendly. Proceeds from the Marche des Brasseurs will support the great work of Sentinelle Outaouais. Hendrick Farm has ample free parking but they do not suggest that you drink and drive. In partnership with Brew Donkey, they will be running a shuttle bus to the Marché des Brasseurs from Ottawa (leaving from Fairmont & Wellington). You can reserve your spot on the bus here. OTTAWA – (July 4, 2014) The votes are tabulated for the brands that will make their way into the 2014 Best of Beau’s holiday mix pack, and the selections are a creative cross-section of the diversity of beer styles Beau’s All Natural Brewery has come to be known for. In order of number of votes, the chosen beers are: St. Luke’s Verse (lavender gruit), Winterbrewed (coffee-infused amber ale), Burnt Rock (vanilla porter), and Mission Accomplished (American-Style IPA).

A total of 2,097 votes were cast to choose the winning beers during the month of June. This was the third year Beau’s let democracy decide which of all the beers Beau’s has ever produced would go into the 2014 4-pack. Beau’s has released a total of 81 beers in the eight years the brewery has existed, and only a handful of brands that were impossible to recreate were excluded from the voting.

Wild Oats Series beer #33 St. Luke’s Verse Gruit Ale was brewed in 2014 in honour of International Gruit Day, a celebration of this unique style of beer brewed with a variety of herbs and spices in place of hops. Copper in colour, St. Luke’s Verse offers up an aromatic herb-and-spice bouquet of lavender, accented by thyme and rosemary.

Winterbrewed (Wild Oats #9) was last brewed in 2013, and is an amber ale brewed with a blend of Mexican, Guatemalan and Ethiopian Organic Fairtrade Coffee from Bridgehead Roastery in Ottawa. The beer is malty, with roasted, toasted flavours of coffee and barley melded with nutty, fruity inflections. Winterbrewed won a Bronze medal at the 2013 Canadian Brewing Awards.

Burnt Rock is a classic British-style porter brewed with additions of organic vanilla beans and extract. Despite what the weighty aroma suggests, Burnt Rock has a good, clean finish, and sessionable drinkability. Part of Beau’s Pro-Am Series (#5), which pairs amateur brewers with the Beau’s brew team, this wonderful winter warmer was first brewed with Ottawa-based homebrew club member Patrick Boisvenue. Burnt Rock won a prestigious Gold medal at the 2013 Mondial de la Biere competition in 2013.

Completing the 4-pack is Wild Oats #35, also from February 2014, Mission Accomplished: an American IPA brewed with a bold hop aroma and assertive bitterness. The combination of organic American and New Zealand hops give the beer sweet, juicy notes of tangerine, tropical fruit and pine. Bready malts provide some backbone but ultimately are no match for the smooth hop bitterness.

The mix pack, containing 4 signature 600 ml bottles, will be sold for $24 in LCBOs across Ontario, as well as direct from the brewery, and through home delivery in Ottawa via BYBO (www.bybo.ca). The 4-packs are expected to be on the LCBO shelves in November 2014, just in time for the holiday season

Yesterday at the Montreal Beer Fest, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company announced that they will be distributing to Quebec in February 2015. This is good news if you enjoy Beau’s beer but find it hard to make it across the border. Earlier this year, they began distributing to New York.

 The Montreal beer festival not only has beer, but delicious food as well. IGA will have three cooking workshops presented every day as well. Chef André-Paul Moreau will present these workshops: IGA Cooking with beerHe will use IGA products to create perfect matches with various beers. The fifteen demonstrations will put a spotlight on local products, cheese, quality meats and seafood. Chefs Matthieu Saunier of l’Osco!, Cédric Désilets of La Coupole, Frank Chesseron and Maxime Boivin of l’Assommoir Notre-Dame, Carl Poulin from Vices & Versa, Olivier Tali of Cheval de jade as well as chef Roland Del Monte of Renoir, will dazzle your tastebuds! François Chartier will also be part of the crew with a presentation called Le goût du froid. Philippe Wouters, on top of being “beer presenter” of the IGA cooking demonstrations, will put together a mussels and shrimp recipe and host the tasting workshops “beer and cheeses” as well as “beer and fudges “.

mondialbiere_13-23It’s that time again in Montreal to expand your beer palate. Mondial de la Bière is Montreal’s premier tasting festival. With 514 beers to taste and 107 breweries present the festival is a good opportunity to taste and learn about beer. There will be over 40 Quebec microbreweries to experience as well. It is worthwhile chance to find some great beers that are brewed right in our backyard or discover new brewpubs to visit during the summer. This year, Mondial de la Bière has also grown to include 269 new breweries that have never presented at the festival before.

Mondial de la Bière takes place for five days between June 11th to 15th and is open from 11am-10pm (Wednesday to Saturday) and 11am-8pm (Sunday). It is held at Palais des Congrès (201 Viger Street West) both insider and outside on the terrace (Esplanade on De la Gauchetière between Chenneville and Côté). Admission is free and tasting coupons are $1.00 each (approximately 2-6 coupons for a 3-4 ounce beer tasting). You can purchase a souvenir glass or bring your own glass (12 ounce or less glass).

VANKLEEK HILL – Beginning in March, Beau’s All Natural Brewing will once again be stretching its local distribution borders, this time to include the New York State craft beer market. The market expansion is part of a recently inked distribution agreement with Albany-based Remarkable Liquids, a boutique distribution company with a strong dedication to working with craft brewers.

First to pour south of the border will be Lug Tread Lagered Ale, Beau’s award-winning flagship beer, along with recent LCBO release The Tom Green Beer, a sessionable milk stout designed in partnership with the Canadian actor and comedian of the same name. Both beers are certified organic, and will be available in the US in Beau’s signature 600 ml (20 oz) bottles, as well as on draft in a variety of keg sizes.

“We’re super-excited to finally get to meet the neighbours,” says Beau’s co-founder Steve Beauchesne. “We’ve had our hearts set on keeping the beer we brew within a day’s drive of the brewery, because it’s important to us to have real relationships with the people who serve it, sell it, and drink it. Selling into New York State gets our beer out to more people to enjoy, but still lets us be a local brewery. By the same logic, we are taking steps to have our beers available in Quebec within the year as well.”

Beauchesne points out that, border crossings aside, selling into New York State was the easiest next step for Beau’s in growing as a regional brewery. “We are planning to keep our beer within a one day’s drive of the brewery, but I’m guessing we may have to make two localized exceptions,” he says. “Tom Green is getting pretty thirsty for his beer out in LA, and Dad [co-founder Tim Beauchesne] now spends his winters in Florida… those guys have a bit of pull around here,” he laughs.
